Understanding The Antichrist - Part I
by Jerry Robinson JerryRobinson.org"And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion:
and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?"
(Rev. 13:1-3)Much confusion and misinformation surrounds the biblical teaching of the coming Antichrist (Greek= 'ho antichristos'). The following outline contains information that I have gathered from several different cited sources over the last few months for study purposes. Consider it an working outline. It should be read as such.
Facts About the Biblical Antichrist
The Antichrist is a man who will rule a global empire at the end of the age. He will make a peace treaty with many nations, including Israel, for seven years. He will eventually set up his kingdom in Jerusalem. He will instigate the final battle of the ages called Armageddon. The Antichrist will be a master of war. He will use WMD's in order to control entire nations. Those who do not convert to his camp will be beheaded and others will be forced into starvation. (See Rev. 13:15-17, Rev. 20:4).
Around 90 A.D., the apostle John penned his 3 epistles. He used the term Antichrist 4 times.
(See 1 John 2:18; 22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7)Now the antichrist spirit existed in John's day but the Bible says that at the end of days, one man will appear who will be the prince of darkness, a son of perdition, who is identified as 'the Antichrist.' In 2 John 1:7, the Greek uses the definite article, 'ho antichristos', meaning 'The Antichrist'
According to 1 John 2:22, the spirit of antichrist and 'The Antichrist' always deny three things:
Both deny the deity of Jesus Christ Both deny that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Both deny the relationship between the Father and the Son. To the Jew: Jesus was simply a man of history who formed a new religion
To the Muslim: Jesus was one of the prophets of Allah
To the Christian: Jesus is the son of the living God, Savior of the World. The Bible gives several different names to the Antichrist:
The Little Horn (Dan. 7:8) King of Fierce Countenance (8:23) The Prince that shall come (9:26) The willful king (11:36) The Man of Sin (2 Thess. 2:3) The Son of Perdition The Beast (Rev. 11:7) Daniel's Four Beasts (Four World Empires):
Babylonian Empire Medo-Persian Empire Grecian Empire Roman Empire Interestingly, these former world empires shared some common elements:
1) All four empires ruled the Mediterranean sea area.
2) All four invaded and controlled Egypt
3) All 4 were involved in dealing with the Jews and Israel
4) All 4 were involved in dealing with Jerusalem and the Temple
5) All 4 were gentile empires with gentile rulers
6) 3 of the 4 ruled from Babylon
The Fourth Empire was the Roman Empire. History tells us that eventually the empire split and and became a dual empire with a one capital in Rome, and another in Constantinople.
This explains why Nebuchadnezzar envisioned this particular empire as the two legs of a tall metallic statue. Both the book of Daniel and the book of Revelation make it clear that out of this Fourth Empire will emerge the final empire of prophecy. This final empire is described as a beast with 10 horns that represent 10 kings ruling over 10 kingdoms that will form and unite at the end of days. (READ DAN. 7:7, 24; READ REV. 17:12, 16)
Similarly, the book of Daniel explains that the two legs of iron (Roman Empire) would eventually produce 10 toes which are the same 10 kings and kingdoms identified by both Daniel and Revelation.
Note: The Roman Empire brings to most people's minds the countries of Italy, France, Germany, etc. Rarely do people consider and factor in these nations listed below as also belonging to the ancient Roman Empire:
Egypt Ethiopia Libya Morocco Jordan Lebanon Syria Iraq Turkey In essence, a major part of today's Middle Eastern countries belonged to the Roman Empire and therefore were part of Daniel's Fourth Beast.
Daniel prophesied that the Antichrist would subdue three kings on his rise to power (Dan. 7:24) Early church documents show that the early church fathers believed these three kings to be: Egypt, Libya, and Ethiopia. For example, consider the following quote from The Treatise of Christ and Antichrist by the early church father, Hippolytus: "That three horns are plucked up by the root by him (antichrist), viz., the three kings of Egypt, and Libya, and Ethiopia"
Of course, this agrees with completely with scripture (SEE DAN. 11:43) All three of these nations have a strong radical Islamic element that is leading to a strong anti-West, and anti-Israel stance.
In The Days Of Those Kings...
Before this becomes too much doom and gloom, let's gain some overall perspective by considering the final outcome of this man-made disaster.
"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever." -Dan. 2:44 (KJV)
In the days of what kings? The final 10 kings. This scripture tells us that when these 10 kings are setting up their kingdoms on earth, Christ will be preparing his final plans to set up his visible kingdom in Jerusalem! Rejoice!
Simliarities found in the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation
1) Both saw a final period of 7 years
Dan. 9:27= 1 week Rev. 42 months + 42 months 2) Both saw a final 42 months of world history
Dan. 12:7 = Time, times, dividing of time Rev. 12:6 = 1,260 days (3 1/2 yrs) 3) Both identify the Antichrist as a beast
Dan. 7:7 = Fourth beast rising Rev. 13:1 = Beast rising from the sea 4) Both reveal a time of great trouble on the earth
Dan. 12:1 = Time such as never was or ever shall be Rev. 12:7-10 = Time of wrath & trouble 5) Both saw Michael the archangel
Dan. 12:1 = Michael stands up at the time of trouble Rev. 12:7 = Michael warring Satan in heaven 6) Both saw 10 kings that would arise at the end of days
Dan. 7:24 = 10 horns are 10 kings Rev. 13:1 = Beast with 10 horns represting 10 kings 7) Both saw the return of the Lord at the conclusion of the tribulation
Dan. 7:13,14 = Everlasting kingdom Rev. 19:11 = Lord Jesus Christ returning to make war

THE ANTICHRIST
We have all heard of the coming world ruler, the Antichrist. The Scripture does not reveal who this man will be, only his number, 666, but many have speculated about his identity. In each generation they have called someone the Antichrist, from the Caesars, through the Popes, Napoleon, Hitter, Kissinger, Rockefeller and many others. The world is growing smaller and the problems of one country effect the whole world. Man is looking for a way to minimize these problems. Man initiated the United Nations to assist in this effort, but the UN is such a bureaucracy that little can be accomplished. The member nations refuse to surrender their sovereignty. The United States would be foolish to let the third word countries dictate policy and programs. The vast majority of these nations are dictatorships and denounce the very principles that this nation upholds. The nations are promoting the "new world order," but this effort is also suffering from the nations putting their own desires above the "world's needs." The coming Antichrist will solve these problems. He will be a charismatic, knowledgeable and powerful ruler who will come into power through wonders and deceit. (1) The key feature of the Antichrist will be his incredible blasphemy. (2) He will declare himself to be the God of Heaven. (3) He will thus be a kind of madman, at least at the peak of his power. This leader will convince the world that he can solve all the problems and for a short time he does. Because of this unique ability, the world will accept him as the "Messiah," the savior of the world. He will imitate Christ, thus the name Antichrist. In order to fool the nations, I think he must imitate Christ in many ways. I think he will be around thirty years old, as Jesus was when He started his ministry. He will come out of obscurity, as did Jesus, and rise to great fame by having a message and plan for world peace. But when will this take place? Jesus said (4) when they cry peace - safety then the end will come. Paul wrote in the letter to the Thessalonians:
The term "Mystery of lawlessness" is translated as "mystery of iniquity" (KJV) and as "secret power of evil" in the New Century Bible. They also translate the word "restrains" as hinders, letteth, continue to stop it, and the living Bible paraphrases these verses as:
These verses indicate that lawlessness will abound at the end times, but we will not know who the Antichrist is until "he who restrains" this evil releases this epitome of evil. The identification of who is doing the restraining has been a subject of considerable debate. The historical position of the Church has been that the divinely sanctioned human government or law is the restraining factor, but this certainly has not stopped the rise in evil, and the pronoun he is not consistent with a governmental entity. Some have indicated that the believers or the church applies the restraint, but again, we refer to the church as a bride, feminine, not a he. There is also a school of thought that the Holy Spirit is the restraining influence and that when the church is raptured the Holy Spirit is taken out of this world, but this is also not consistent with the idea that the Holy Spirit is omnipresent. My own opinion is that the Holy Spirit is this restraining force and at the appropriate time He ceases this restraint. One may restrain a person by holding his arm and may release this restraint without actually leaving the site. I equate this removal of restraint of evil with the rapture of the church, and then God will reveal the Antichrist and let him come into power to complete God's plan of redemption for this earth and His people.
Many prophecy writers, the author included, have surmised that he is alive today, and there is justification for this. But this should not lead the Body of Christ into guessing games as to his identity. We are not the first people in history to try to select the Antichrist from our midst. The process has been going on since the first century when they cited certain Roman emperors as the Antichrist. From the Caesars, through the Popes, through Napoleon and the 19th century dictators, and up to the present the finger-pointing has gone on.
At, or shortly after the rapture, the Antichrist comes into power. He becomes a world leader and makes the covenant with many to protect Israel and many scholars say he becomes the world dictator. They are led to this conclusion by the four statements in the book of Revelation.:
(1) Power was given him over all kindred, and tongues, and nations (Rev. 13:7)
(2) All that dwell upon the earth shall worship him (except Christians, Rev. 13:8)
(3) He causeth all, both small and great ... to receive a mark (Rev. 13:16)
(4) No man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, name, or number (Rev. 13:17)
On the surface it might seem that these statements prove Antichrist will be a world ruler, killing all on earth who do not take his mark, name, or number. But, it could be that he does not rule the "entire" earth because "all" in these passages could be simply a figure of speech --synecdoche-- in which a whole is put for a part, as we would say, "Everyone in town," or "the whole country." If the United States would make a law that "all men" of all nations, and tongues must register on a certain day or be killed, we would naturally understand the law to apply only to all people of all nations and tongues who are under the government of the United States, not to the people of these nations and tongues who are under other governments. The word "all" is used in a limited sense hundreds of times in Scriptures (Genesis 6:17; Joshua 6:21-25; 2 Samuel 6:5,15; 1 Kings 11:16-17; Matthew 3:5-6; Luke 2:1-3; Romans 1:8; Romans 10:18; Col. 1:23; etc.).
Such terms as in Revelation 13 have been used of other rulers and kingdoms who did not literally rule the whole world. It was said of Nebuchadnezzar--Wheresoever the children of men dwell ... hath made thee ruler over them ALL (Daniel 2:38). Of Greece--Which shall bear rule over ALL the earth (Daniel 2:39). Of Rome--Shall devour the WHOLE earth (Daniel 7:23-24). None of these kingdoms ruled the whole world. Revelation 13 itself limits the kingdom of Antichrist to the 10 kingdoms that are yet to be formed inside the old Roman Empire territory (Daniel 7:23-24). The beast has only 10 horns, not 185 [as shown by the UN], plainly teaching that a limited part of the earth will be under Antichrist (Revelation 13:1; Revelation 17:12-17). Revelation 17:8-17 also limits the kingdom of Antichrist to the 10 kingdoms--the 10 horns ... "are 10 kings, which have received no kingdom as yet, but received power as kings with the beast ... these shall give their kingdom unto the beast."
In Daniel 7:7-8,23-24 we have the definite location of the future 10 kingdoms. They are to be inside (out of), not outside the old Roman Empire territory. America and many other lands were never a part of the old Roman Empire, so they will not be a part of the 10 kingdoms to be formed in the last days inside that empire. Under these restraints no country outside the 10 kingdoms will be ruled by Antichrist and no mark of the beast will be forced upon any man outside the kingdom of Antichrist. We also know that Edom and Moab escape the Antichrist and countries to the north and east attack him, (5) they must not be under his control.
Based on the above, we cannot be adamant about the Antichrist ruling the whole earth. He does have absolute control of the Old Roman Empire, just as the Caesars did. But if the False Church is based on the network of Christian churches, especially the centralized catholic church, which are still here after the rapture, he may have control. I guess we will have to just wait and see!
In the beginning he will probably bring peace to the Middle east and apparently be welcomed as a political leader of great skill and a peacemaker and will solve, at least temporarily, the earth's problems both political and economic. The true clue to his identity will be his seven-year peace plan for the protection of Israel:
The Antichrist will apparently be European, coming out of a revised Roman Empire. Daniel identifies Rome, his "fourth kingdom, (6) and thus people have been looking for a power conglomerate to rise out of Europe. Further, the description of the Antichrist in Revelation (7) agrees with Daniel in describing a beast with ten heads. Many believe that this is the ten-nation confederacy in Europe and the Mediterranean area. Many analysts have pointed to the Common Market as that very confederacy. However, they are wrong, because Daniel (8) states that the Antichrist defeats three of the ten and they are Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia. These three are not part of the Common Market or the European Union. With the backing of the dragon, the Antichrist establishes his false religion and demands to be worshiped.
Revelation (9) specifies that everyone on earth will worship the Antichrist except those who come to Christ during the Tribulation period and do not accept the "Mark of the Beast." Again the "all" might be as described above as not pertaining to literally all the world because we know there are people that go into the Millennial Kingdom in the flesh. They produce children who must hear the Gospel :
Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth - to every nation, tribe, language and people.
He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water." Revelation 14:6-7
The "false prophet" explained in Revelation (10) will be the Antichrist's "John the Baptist," thus, creating the conditions and events similar to the First Coming of Christ. He will be a kind of promotion man for the Antichrist, working miracles of his own and deceiving the millions into following Satan. His economic program will be successful for a time. Every person on the earth must participate by bearing a number on his right hand or forehead, the number 666, the Mark of the Beast. Without this mark an individual cannot buy or sell anything. (11) We are already seeing buying and selling with credit cards and the process of marking merchandise with a code a computer can read. It is only another step to "marking" the individual doing the buying. The advance and miniaturization of computer chips make this marking feasible. When the computer CPU chip expanded to 256 bits the possibility of numbering every human on earth and the inclusion of pertinent information in a micro chip became a real possibility. Capsules the size of a grain of rice containing similar chips are now being placed under the skin of animals. This enables the owner not only to mark his animal but include the pedigree and medical information.
In Revelation, we see Satan being cast down and taking over the body of the Antichrist at the time of the abomination of desolation. (12) We are told that the Antichrist appears "wounded to death." (13) Satan fakes a resurrection and becomes evil incarnate; he tries to fool the people into thinking that he is Christ. Satan is then in charge of the last three and a half years of the Jewish tribulation. When Christ comes, He defeats Satan and his forces at Armageddon. "It is done. (14) The Antichrist and the false prophet are the first ones cast into the lake of fire. Satan is bound and cast into the bottomless pit. There, he must remain throughout the next 1000 years -- the millennial reign of Christ -- the millennial kingdom. The Devil is getting just what he deserves, but this is not his final judgment or his final punishment. No, he knows that he has lost, and he must also contemplate his final judgment. For him, it will be a very long thousand years.
Christ said,
That means that the devil does not know either. The only time that he knows anything about Christ's returning is when he is cast out of heaven. Then, he knows that he has but a short time left. (15) Throughout the ages, Satan has been waging this battle against God. In the beginning, a third of the heavenly host joined Satan, so we know it is not a small war. In order for Satan to win, he must make God a liar; he must distort God's Word. This, he thinks, will let him take God's place as the ruler of the universe. Throughout the ages, the devil has tried this repeatedly. He keeps thinking that he will be bringing the Antichrist into power and changing just a fraction of God's Word. The distortion of the church is a similar battle. King Herod who tried to kill Jesus as a baby was a form of Antichrist. Satan helped most dictators come to power, from ancient time until today.
Some more modern "Antichrist types" have a remarkable identity with the Scriptures. Take Hitler, for example. In his book, "Mein Kampf," he said that he received the plan for the Third Reich in a vision. Hitler was going to create a 1000 year Reich, a millennial kingdom. He chose a particular people: blond, blue-eyed Aryans -- the exact opposite of the Jews. In fact, he was going to rid the world of all the Jews, and we know that he certainly tried. If he had succeeded, the Scriptures would be in error. Deluding the people through trickery and deceit, he rose to power in a way similar to that by which the real Antichrist comes to power. (16) God casts Satan out of heaven, and Satan takes over the earth. Daniel says that the Antichrist goes into the Holy Land, and three and a half years later, appears wounded to death (17) and Satan takes over. Satan fiercely persecutes the Jews during the second three and a half years. (18) Hitler's actions were very similar, his troops marched into Israel in October 1941, and in April 1945, Hitler died and they burned his body. This was exactly 42 months, or three and a half years after he marched into the Holy Land.
The parallel is remarkable. Hitler did not persecute the Jews during the first half of his reign, 1938-1941. Satan tried to alter the Scriptures, and he lost.
Alexander the Great became King of Greece at the age of 30. By the time he was 33 he had conquered the civilized world, and died at 33. His reign over earth was about three and one half years, a time similar to Christ's ministry and the Antichrist's reign. Satan had failed again to raise an Antichrist.
Atilla the Hun conquered the world, but he went about it backwards, east to west instead of west to east as Scripture says.
Islam followed the folly of Atilla the Hun, but their motivation was to destroy the Christian and Jewish religions and make Islam the world religion. They are continuing that idea today. Satan must destroy the people of God and prevent the prophecies from being completed as dictated by the Word of God.. Nevertheless, he has already lost!
The reign of the Antichrist is somewhat academic to the current Christian believer because we will be gone in the Rapture before he is revealed. For those who remain on earth after the Rapture his rule will be a way of life and if we can inform them of the coming events hopefully they will respond to the 144,000 Jewish Billy Grahamn's message.
My thoughts...I find this very interesting, but I do not believe one word of it...sorry.
