Gabriel disappeared with his mother, Emily Quijano, from Orem, Utah on September 8, 2015. They were riding in a red 2009 Toyota Prius with the Utah license plate number X198BJ; a photo of it is posted below this case summary. Her ex-husband reported her missing after she didn't show up for a child custody exchange. Emily's boyfriend, Christopher Richard Poulson, said they broke up after he found drug paraphernalia in their apartment, and she left with her son, possibly moving to California. However, police could find no evidence that she was in California or anywhere else in the country. Emily's Prius was found abandoned in a parking lot in St. George, Utah, filled with bags of her belongings and Gabriel's car seat. The keys were inside it also.
Authorities never believed Emily took Gabriel and left of her own accord. She had paid $13,000 in tuition to the Utah College of Massage Therapy and was about to graduate before she disappeared, and her credit cards, bank account and cellular phone have not been used since September 8.
Investigators are searching for Emily and Gabriel's bodies. Foul play is suspected in their cases due to the circumstances involved.
