Noor and his brother Ramsay disappeared from Newton, Massachusetts on August 11, 2009. They were abducted by their non-custodial mother, Mirvat Safwat El Nady. A photograph and vital statistics El Nady are posted below this case summary. A felony warrant for international parental kidnapping was issued for her on December 1, 2009. El Nady is divorced from Noor and Ramsay's father, Colin Bower, and he has sole custody of them. She took them during one of her scheduled weekly visitation times.
El Nady took the boys to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City, paid cash for three one-way tickets to Cairo, Egypt, and used false Egyptian passports to get the children on the EgyptAir plane. Colin subsequently sued EgyptAir, alleging their lax security facilitated the boys' abductions; the lawsuit is pending. Colin made a dozen visits to Egypt after the abductions, but was only allowed to see Noor and Ramsay three times. He has been working with the American and Egyptian governments to try and have them returned home.
