Danenberg was last seen on May 17, 2016. She was driving with her friend, Tiffany Maupin, in Idaho County, Idaho, six miles north of Lucile, when their 2004 Nissan Maxima left Highway 95, flipped, and crashed into the Salmon River at 7:00 p.m. It was completely submerged. Witnesses to the accident saw a body, apparently Danenberg's, float to the surface, face-down, for a few seconds before disappearing under the water again. A photograph of Maupin is posted below this case summary. Her body was recovered six miles downstream on May 28, but Danenberg's remains have never been located. Due to hazardous water conditions, searchers weren't able to locate the Nissan and pull it out of the river until July. Danenberg and Maupin grew up together in Nampa, Idaho. They had been best friends since high school and both enrolled in the University of Idaho at Moscow after graduation; Danenberg was studying creative writing. She planned to move back home and transfer to Boise State University, and was going to spend two more weeks in Moscow before returning. She is presumed to have drowned.
