Missing Person Photos

A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Details of Disappearance Smith was last seen on west Brunson Street in Enterprise, Alabama at 10:00 p.m. on January 21, 2017. She has never been heard from again. That evening, witnesses heard a gunshot in the parking lot of the apartment complex here she lived. Later that night, her boyfriend, Malcolm Theotis Hunter, was sighted driving her car up to a bank ATM. He was alone at the time.
When police recovered the car, Smith's cellular phone and wallet were inside it. There was also a large amount of blood in the passenger compartment. An anonymous tip lead police to a silver handgun, registered to Smith, in a vacant lot on west Adams Street and Warren Road. Based on another tip, authorities recovered Hunter's bloodstained clothes and shoes.
A photo of Hunter is posted with this summary. He was arrested and charged with Smith's murder on February 2. At first he claimed he didn't know what happened to her, but the third time police questioned him, he stated his aunt had shot Smith in the chest during an argument at his aunt's apartment, then drove away with her and returned without her. Investigators checked the apartment in question, but found no evidence that a shooting had taken place there.
In the spring of 2018, Hunter was tried for Smith's murder. The blood found in Hunter's car was hers, one witness testified that he'd seen Hunter "with what appeared to be the lifeless body of a woman in his car," and another witness said Hunter asked him for help in getting rid of a handgun.
The jury convicted Hunter after only 45 minutes' deliberation. He was sentenced to the maximum term, life in prison without parole, under the Habitual Felony Offender Act; he has four previous felony convictions.
Smith left behind two young children. Her body has not been found, but foul play is suspected due to the circumstances involved.
