A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

Medical Conditions Smith suffers from a life-threatening medical condition and requires multiple medications to control it; he made sure to take them at the same time every evening, carrying them with him if necessary. He left his medications behind.
Markings and/or Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Sandy brown hair. Smith has different colored eyes; one is blue and one is green. His nickname is Ben.
Details of Disappearance Smith was last seen in Tijeras, New Mexico on July 4, 2017. He didn't take his personal belongings, cellular phone or anything of value with him, but may have had his wallet and electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card. He has never been heard from again.
At the time of his disappearance, he was living with the mother of a deceased friend. He'd been living at that house,near N.M. 337 and Raven Road, for a few months. At 4:00 p.m., after having hot dogs and some beer, he left to walk to the park.He was in a good mood and looking forward to going to an Albuquerque Isotopes baseball game and fireworks that evening. The game was supposed to start at 5:30, and he promised to be back in time, but he never returned.
Authorities believe Smith may be in danger, as he left behind his medication. The woman he was living with describes him as a very pleasant person and a "free spirit" but not the kind of person to just disappear. His remains unsolved.
