A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Details of Disappearance Crystal was last seen in Lafayette, Louisiana on February 7, 2013. She was living in a shelter for abused women at the time. She left the shelter on February 7 and was last seen the following day. She failed to attend several child custody court dates later that month. She was reported missing on February 18.
Crystal married Sean Karl Grebinger in the 1990s and lived in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. They had a stormy sixteen-year marriage and were estranged at the time of Crystal's disappearance.
A photo of Sean is posted with this summary. In November 2012, Crystal had obtained a protective order to keep him away from her and their four children; she wrote that he had sexually assaulted her and on one occasion tried to strangle her, and she was afraid for her and her children's lives. Sean was supposed to stay 300 feet from Crystal at all times, but he allegedly violated the protective order twice.
On January 14, Crystal filed for divorce. She disappeared three weeks later.
Sean dropped out of sight two weeks after Crystal's disappearance, and his whereabouts were unknown for years. Authorities determined he moved to Brazil and got a residence permit by claiming, untruthfully, that he was an American Special Forces agent and faced political persecution in the United States. He married a Brazilian resident.
On January 31, 2020, he was arrested in Pouso Alegre, Brazil and charged an assault against his Brazilian wife. He was granted provisional release without bail, but in February 2020, he was re-arrested, and authorities announced he would be extradited to the United States to face murder charges in Crystal's disappearance.
Days later, still in custody in Brazil awaiting extradition to the U.S., Sean was found hanged in his cell. His death is under investigation but is believed to have been a suicide. He left at least three notes to his friends and family, asking them to take care of his children.
Crystal has never been located. Foul play is suspected in her due to the circumstances involved.
