A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Details of Disappearance Deanna's family was having problems in 1990 and she was staying with her grandmother on Alamo Avenue in Killeen, Texas that summer. She had completed seventh grade at Manor Middle School and was due to enter eighth grade at Fairway School in the fall.
She and her grandmother stayed up late watching movies on the evening of July 21. After her grandmother went to bed, Deanna sneaked out of the house and went to visit her fraternal twin sister, Rebecca, who lived with an uncle two and a half miles away at the Oak Springs Trailer Park in the 500 block of Dimple Street.
Deanna left with the men in their vehicle after the girls' conversation woke up their uncle. She was never seen again.
In 1992, Rebecca got a collect phone call from someone who identified herself as "Deanna." She accepted the call, but by the time they connected, the caller had hung up. The call was traced to Horse Cave, Kentucky, but the caller has never been identified.
Rebecca later discovered that the police in Hurst, Texas ran Deanna's name and date of birth through their computer at a traffic stop in 1995. Between 2000 and 2002, a relative from out of state said Deanna had visited and said she wanted to stay hidden. The relative stated Deanna had gotten several tattoos. This story has never been verified.
Many agencies classify Deanna as a runaway. She took no belongings with her when she vanished. Her mother has since died, but her sister is searching for her. Rebecca describes her as a "free spirit" and a streetwise, rebellious teen.
The girls' mother was an alcoholic and Deanna was reportedly sexually abused. She and her sister grew up in the homes of various relatives. She enjoyed music by Def Leppard, White Snake and Ozzy Osbourne in 1990.
Rebecca hopes Deanna is still alive and ran away to a better life. Her remains unsolved.
