Information on the case from local sources, may or may not be correct : Milfort was last seen in Vero Beach, Florida on May 31, 2013. He was swimming off the coast of South Beach Park with two friends at 6:00 p.m., when his wife called for them all to come to shore.
It was an hour after the beach's lifeguards had left for the day. A double-red flag was flying on the beach, a warning to swimmers of strong north-flowing rip currents. Milfort's companions made it to shore, but he never arrived.
Milfort is a U.S. Army veteran who was previously stationed in Hawaii. He is described as a strong swimmer. His body has never been found, but he is presumed drowned.
