A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

Or a teenager doesn�t return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors haven�t seen them for several days, and family and friends haven�t heard from them either.

Clothing/Jewelry Description A light blue sweatshirt over a pink dress, blue slacks, gray socks, gray and blue sneakers, rollers in her hair, a cluster ring on her right pinky finger, a gold rope bracelet on her right wrist, a gold chain with a cross pendant and a ring with three stones on one of her left fingers.
Medical Conditions Miller has mild hearing loss. She is required to take medication for a non-threatening condition, but did not have her prescription with her at the time she disappeared. She does not have any other health problems.
Markings and/or Distinguishing Characteristics African-American female. Black hair, brown eyes. Miller wears eyeglasses and a full set of dentures, but she did not have either with her at the time of her 2000 disappearance. Miller wore an Ace bandage on her right arm when she vanished. Her ears are pierced.
Details of Disappearance Miller was last seen departing from her residence in the 3900 block of Mount Sinai Church Road in rural Lynchburg, South Carolina between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. on March 10, 2000. She was accompanied by her two puppies and an adult German Shepherd. Two of the animals later returned home, leading authorities to believe that Miller was still in the local area. The third one has not been found.
An extensive search of the surrounding areas produced no clues as to Miller's whereabouts. All of her personal belongings were located inside of her residence, including her dentures, walking stick, her purse with cash inside, and her eyeglasses. There was no sign of a struggle at the house.
Miller does not have a history of leaving without warning and her family has stated that she was lucid at the time she was last seen. She had not driven for years prior to her disappearance and does not own a car. Her remains unsolved.
