A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Markings and/or Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian female. Gray hair, blue eyes. Kaidena's nickname is Kay. She has a vertical scar on her abdomen and her ears are pierced one time each. She wears hearing aids in both ears.
Details of Disappearance Kaidena lived with her husband, 79-year-old James William "Bill" Wood, in rural Norwalk, Iowa. A photo of Bill is posted with this summary. On the night of July 30, 2011, their house was destroyed by fire. The blaze apparently started on the front porch, and by the time firefighters arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.
Bill's body was found in the ashes the next morning; he'd been shot to death. Kaidena was missing, as was the couple's truck, a red 2009 Chevrolet Silverado with the Iowa license plate number 426SOC. Pictures of the truck are posted with this summary.
On July 31, the same day Bill's body was identified, the Woods' truck was found abandoned at Cordillera Ranch Apartments in the 8300 block of north Donnelly Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Authorities determined it had actually been there since before the Woods' house caught fire.
Witnesses saw an unidentified man park walking away from the vehicle. A sketch of the man is posted with this summary. He's considered a person of interest in Bill's murder and Kaidena's disappearance. The man is described as Caucasian, 6'2 to 6'6 tall, with crew-cut gray or white hair. He was between his 40s and his 60s.
The Woods had been married almost three years by the time of the fire. They had both survived their previous spouses. Bill still worked in spite of his advanced age. Kaidena and Bill were at an auction in Stuart, Iowa on the morning of July 30, and it's possible someone saw them there and decided to rob them. They kept expensive antiques in their home.
Authorities don't consider Kaidena to be a suspect in the fire or her husband's murder. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance due to the circumstances involved.
