A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Details of Disappearance Cook was last seen on November 18, 2008 in Amsterdam, Missouri. He left his job at the Kansas City Power & Light Plant at 10:30 p.m.
In addition to his work at the power plant, Cook also managed an large cattle ranch with over 1,000 head of cattle. Authorities believe that on the morning of November 19, at 7:00 a.m., he met with one of his ranch hands.
The employee stated he and Cook checked on some cattle a few miles from Cook's home, then Cook rode away on his four-wheeler. Later that day, he missed a scheduled meeting with one of his business partners. He has never been heard from again. Police stated they didn't consider the ranch hand to be a wholly reliable witness.
After Cook's disappearance, both his vehicles were found at his home near Amsterdam, Missouri. His wallet was inside the residence, which was in order with no indications of forced entry or foul play.
Cook's cellular phone hasn't been used since his disappearance, which is uncharacteristic of him; he would always answer the phone, no matter what he was doing. His phone, eyeglasses and money clip disappeared with him.
Cook is an avid outdoorsman. He is divorced, but he was on good with his ex-wife, and he wasn't involved with drugs, alcohol or gambling. He grew up in Ballard, Missouri, the oldest of seven siblings, and he has one daughter. He was a prominent figure in his community prior to his disappearance, and was known as a reliable man and a hard worker.
It's uncharacteristic of Cook to miss work or to be out of touch with his loved ones, and he wasn't having any personal problems when he went missing. Foul play is suspected in his disappearance, which remains unsolved.
