Missing Person Photos

A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Markings and/or Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian female. Brown hair, green eyes. Peterson wears eyeglasses; the frames are black frames with pink speckles. She has blonde highlights in her hair. She has the following tattoos: a purple rose on her left breast, a cross with the name "Elijah" on her left shoulder blade, a large purple bear on her left upper arm, a daisy with the word "Daisy" on her right shoulder blade, and a large butterfly on the back of her neck. A photo of the purple bear tattoo is posted with this summary. Peterson also had a tattoo of the word "Burns" on her lower back, but she may have covered that with another tattoo.
Details of Disappearance Peterson was last seen in Ross Township, Pennsylvania on September 26, 2011. She was home when her two children left for school that morning. Afterwards, she went shopping at the Giant Eagle grocery store in the 4100 block of Brighton Road; she may have also gone to the Home Depot store.
Sometime that day, her ex-boyfriend came over to pick up some clothes. They had dated for five years but she'd broken up with him about three weeks before. She lived in an apartment on north Fremont Avenue. Witnesses saw them talking in the yard, but did not see Peterson get into his car.
She was supposed to pick up her two children from swim practice that afternoon, but she never showed up and when they tried to call her, the calls went straight to voicemail. Eventually the children's grandmother picked them up and drove them home. When they arrived, Peterson was gone. She has never been heard from again.
Her cellular phone and purse disappeared with her, but she left her Nissan Sentra behind, which was odd, considering that her recent knee surgery had left her unable to walk for long distances. Peterson's cellular phone came in a purple Cricket with flowers, and her purse is made of black cloth with white skulls printed on it. They have never been located.
Peterson disappeared once before, in 2003, but it's uncharacteristic of her to leave without making arrangements for her children's care.
She graduated from Northgate High School and Rosedale Technical Institute, and worked as a mechanic. At the time of her disappearance, she was on disability leave from work while recovering from knee surgery. Her remains unsolved.
