A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesn�t return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Markings and/or Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Brown hair, brown eyes. Stevenson goes by his middle name, Shannon. His hair was cut in a mohawk style at the time of his disappearance. He has a tattoo of the word "MANIAC" on his lower arm and a tattoo of a sun on his right arm. His ears are pierced and he has a piercing below his bottom lip.
Details of Disappearance Stevenson was last seen in Memphis, Tennessee on October 1, 2009. He called his grandmother's home from the home of an acquaintance, Jeffrey May, in the 2700 block of Misty Valley, in the Highway 64 and Houston Levee area.
He initially asked his grandmother to pick him up and take him to her house in the 3700 block of Epworth, but later said he'd gotten another ride. He never arrived there and has never been heard from again. All his personal belongings, including his car, were left behind.
Stevenson had a troubled past. He had previously served fourteen months of a thirty-month sentence in a Florida prison for burglary and robbery; he was paroled in September 2008, a little over a year before his disappearance.
His grandmother stated he had a drug problem, but said he'd never stayed away from home for more than a day or two at a time and had always kept in regular touch with her.
In September 2017, May was charged with second-degree murder in Stevenson's presumed death. A photo of May is posted with this summary. Investigators haven't released any information about the against him. He is awaiting trial.
Although his body has not been recovered, foul play is suspected in Stevenson's disappearance due to the circumstances involved.
