A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Details of Disappearance Diaz was last seen after leaving work at the H-E-B grocery store on southeast Military Drive and Goliad Road in San Antonio, Texas on December 7, 2010. Surveillance cameras showed her talking to another woman near her truck.
She was supposed to go to the home of her estranged husband, Pedro "Pete" Ruiz, to pick up a lawn mower. Her husband said he did see that day. They were in the process of a divorce. Prior to her disappearance, Ruiz had had to be escorted out of the H-E-B several times after confrontations with Diaz while she worked.
Days later, Diaz's white 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, with her purse inside it, was found on Highway 181 and F.M. 320, just down the street from Ruiz's home. There was no sign of her at the scene and she has never been heard from again. A photo of the truck is posted with this summary.
A private investigator hired by Diaz's family believes she arrived home after going to Ruiz's house, and was surprised there. The shoes she wore on the day of her disappearance was found inside her home, and they had sand stuck to them, similar to the sand found at Ruiz's home. Some clothes were also scattered on the floor of her residence, which is uncharacteristic of Diaz; she normally kept everything neat and clean.
Investigators don't believe she left of her own accord. Ruiz has been a person of interest in her over the years. Just days after she went missing, he inquired about her life insurance policy and grew angry when he found out he wasn't the beneficiary. He has never charged in her , however, and he maintains his innocence. Police dug for her body at their former home in Floresville, Texas in 2018, but didn't find any evidence.
Diaz's remains unsolved.
