A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

Markings and/or Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Blond hair, blue eyes. Samuel has previously broken his collarbone on the side and it protrudes as a result. He has also previously fractured his leg. Samuel has a scar above his navel. His nickname is Sam and he may go by the name Sam Hain.
Details of Disappearance Samuel was last seen in San Antonio, Texas on February 17, 1988. He mowed the lawn and told his mother he was going out to see friends that night. He took his bicycle with him. He has never been heard from again. His bicycle did reappear at his residence, however.
Samuel's life was very troubled prior to his disappearance. He abused drugs and was known to have a violent temper. After he was convicted of burglary, he spent three months in a detention facility in Waco, Texas. He was released in November 1987 and returned home to San Antonio.
His mother stated he seemed to be trying to improve his life and stay out of trouble. He had dropped out of sight for a few days at a time before, but he always kept in touch with his mother and would take belongings with him whenever he left.
According to his mother, Samuel was fascinated with Satanism and may have been involved in a Satantic cult at the time of his disappearance. His mother stated he enjoyed acting and sketching, and wanted to become an artist when he grew up. Foul play is suspected in his , which remains unsolved.
