A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

McCullough has a tattoo of a pit bull on his right arm and a tattoo of a skull with a snake inside on his left arm. He has scars on his head and neck. He had a short mustache and beard at the time of his disappearance.
McCullough said he was going out to look for work. He never returned and has never been heard from again. After his disappearance, his vehicle was found abandoned in a wooded area.
At the time of his disappearance, McCullough was awaiting the completion of a bench trial; it had been delayed from July 31 to August 26 to allow a witness to testify. He'd been charged with aggravated second-degree battery in August 2014 after he allegedly severely beat a man in the bathroom of a bar on State Highway 6. The victim suffered multiple head and facial injuries, was initially comatose and required hospital treatment and rehabilitation.
McCullough has an extensive criminal record, with 35 arrests dating back to 1994 for crimes including drug possession, theft, three counts of driving while intoxicated, and issuing worthless checks. He could be sentenced to up to fifteen years in prison if convicted of aggravated second-degree battery, and because he was on felony probation at the time of his arrest, he could have his sentence enhanced under the state's habitual offender laws. After his disappearance, an arrest warrant was issued for him after he missed a court appearance.
A witness told police that McCullough had been abducted by two people and taken to a logging area in the Sabine National Forrest in Sabine County, Texas. The witness said he was shot to death and set on fire.
Police went to the logging site and a cadaver dog indicated the presence of human remains at the exact spot where the witness said McCullough had been killed, but a search of the area turned up no evidence. Nevertheless, authorities believe the witness's account is credible and they are still trying to verify it.
It isn't clear whether McCullough is running from the law, but police and his family are anxious to find him. His remains unsolved.
