A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Whitton has tattoos on her lower back, right shoulder blade, both hips, right buttock, and right foot, as well as a tattoo of Chinese symbols on the inside of her left wrist and a tattoo of a butterfly on her hip. She may change her hair color; it was white-blonde at the time of her disappearance, but the natural color is brown.
Details of Disappearance Whitton was last seen with her boyfriend, Ashley Christopher "Red" Caudle, at a Wal-Mart Supercenter on Cobb Parkway in Marietta, Georgia at 2:00 a.m. on September 13, 2013. She shopped with Caudle in the store for an hour and appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time.
As they were leaving the store, two employees stopped Whitton, they as they suspected her of shoplifting. Whitton ran away from them into the parking lot, passing Caudle, leaving behind her purse and her shoes. She ran out of range of the security cameras at 2:04 a.m. and was never seen again.
Whitton had worked for the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) across the highway from the Wal-Mart Supercenter, but was terminated a month before she disappeared after she was caught stealing. She occasionally visited the restaurant after she was fired. Sometime after 2:00 a.m. the day Whitton disappeared, Caudle went to the restaurant to ask if anyone there had seen her; no one had.
Whitton was very active on social media, but hasn't accessed any of her accounts since her disappearance. She left behind her six-year-old daughter, which is uncharacteristic of her.
Ten months after Whitton's disappearance, authorities searched the house where Caudle lived and excavated the backyard. The house is actually his mother's. Investigators stated the search turned up no significant evidence. Caudle is currently serving a twenty-year sentence for selling methamphetamine and considered a person of interest in Whitton's . A photo of him is posted with this summary.
Caudle says he loves Whitton, has no idea what happened to her and is anxious to find her. However, people who knew the couple stated they fought frequently and with such intensity that they were evicted from one residence, and Caudle made several false statements about his actions on the night Whitton disappeared.
Whitton was on probation for burglary at the time of her disappearance, her probation was supposed to end in March 2014. Her mother, who cares for Whitton's daughter, stated she had stolen things regularly since childhood and had failed several attempts at drug rehabilitation. Whitton's remains unsolved and foul play is suspected.
