A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Markings and/or Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Brown hair, brown eyes. Mardeyev is a native of Kazakhstan, a country in Central Asia that was part of the former Soviet Union, and speaks with a thick Russian accent. His last name may be spelled "Merdeyev" or "Mardyev." He may use the alias name Ratmir Maruna.
Details of Disappearance Mardeyev was last seen in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 29, 2011. He left his Grove, Oklahoma home alone and in a hurry at 8:00 p.m., driving his dark blue 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with the Oklahoma license plate number 51312C, and drove to Tulsa.
His car was parked in front of the Riverspirit Casino for an hour, then it left and was parked again at the Batman Convenience Store in the 1400 block of north Mingo Road. He has never been heard from again. On December 9, his car was towed from the convenience store parking lot where it had been abandoned.
Mardeyev's keys were in the ignition and his GPS system and expensive sunglasses were inside the car, along with a bottle of Coke and an open bottle of whiskey. His Bible and some paperwork he was filling out for his visa were missing.
There was gravel in the front and back seats of the car, which is uncharacteristic of Mardeyev; he kept his vehicle very clean. The car's money change compartment had been cleaned out and the radio was tuned to a rap station; Mardeyev listened only to CDs or a Russian-language station. In addition, the driver's seat was pulled too far forward for a person of Mardeyev's height.
Because the casino has no surveillance tapes, authorities aren't sure whether he actually visited there on the day of his disappearance. According to the GPS, whoever was driving the car drove from Grove to Tulsa without stopping and didn't take Mardeyev's usual route. He usually took the turnpike to Tulsa, but on the day he disappeared his car turned around at the turnpike toll gates and took another, roundabout route over back roads.
His cellular phone was used to access the internet at 11:00 p.m. the night he disappeared, but has been turned off ever since. He was carrying his wallet, passport and approximately $3,000 to $5,000 in cash at the time he went missing. His family doesn't believe he would have gone gambling at the casino; they described him as a frugal person. His cellular phone has been turned off since late in the evening the day he disappeared.
Mardeyev was born in the Central Asian nation of Kazakhstan, which was then part of the Soviet Union. He was in the United States on a work visa in 2011 and lived with his sister and brother-in-law.
His mother had died in Russia and his father died in Oklahoma not long before his disappearance, and he was distraught about it. According to his loved ones, Mardeyev was acting differently on the day of his disappearance; he seemed depressed and agitated and treated his family members rudely.
Mardeyev was due to fly to Russia for Christmas, but never made his flight. He and his fiancee were supposed to marry in Russia in February and then settle in Oklahoma, and he had been house-hunting in Tulsa.
His family said he kept to himself and had no friends in the USA, but he was using the alias name Ratmir Maruna. Under this name, he had befriended a woman online and they spoke on the phone. He was considering going to meet her in person, something his relatives advised against because of his engagement. Authorities interviewed the woman and she isn't considered a suspect in Mardeyev's disappearance.
Mardeyev hasn't been in touch with his fiancee or any of his relatives either overseas or in the U.S., and there's no evidence that he left the country after he vanished. His passport has been flagged so if anyone tries to use it to travel, the authorities will be notified. The circumstances of Mardeyev's disappearance are unclear; his remains unsolved.
