Cubana De Aviaciã³N Flight 972 - On May 18, 2018, Cubana De Aviaciã³N Flight 972 (CU-972) Lost Altitude Shortly After Takeoff From Josã© Martã International Airport And Crashed Near The Airport, Cu-972 Was On A Domestic Flight To Frank Paãs Airport At Holguãn In The East Of Cuba. It Was Carrying 113 People Altogether: 104 Passengers And Nine Cre. Of The 113 On Board, 3 Survived The Crash, All Of Whom Are In Critical Condition. The Aircraft Was A Leased Boeing 737-200 Global Air Flight, Operating On A Scheduled Domestic Flight On Behalf Of Cubana De Aviaciã³N, From Havana To Holguãn. In The Months Prior, Cubana Had Been Taking Several Of Its Planes Out Of Service Due To Mechanical Problems With Its Own Fleet, In Part A Result Of The Former United States Embargo Against Cuba, And Relying On Leased Planes To Maintain Their Service.[9] The Aircraft Was Manufactured In 1979 And Was 38 Years Old. Cuban President Miguel Dãaz-Canel And Other Local Authorities Arrived At The Site To Observe And Monitor The Rescue Efforts.
