It isn't uncharacteristic of Killian to leave home for days at a time, but she's never been gone this long before. Her husband, whom she married in 1982, said she enjoyed volunteering in the community and helping the homeless, but that her mental illness worsened as she grew older and she would sometimes drop out of sight as a result.
Investigators think Killian may still be alive and may not want to be found. Her disappearance remains unsolved.

Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends.
